This forum was opened in 2007 and after nearly 16 years needs to be retired. The forum software is long out of date and has become progressively harder to patch in order to run on newer hosting software. I have done what I can to get the forum up in a read-only view, but posting will remain broken. A few old members still hang out on Discord if you'd like to stop by to say hello.
Thanks for the memories. -Lhurgoyf

Anyway, looks like it is going to be cool. Unless it is one of the movies that they show the best parts of the movies only during the trailers.

A lot of people use the word "Hyped" that way. Even I do sometimes. Don't sweat it.
1. hyped
1. Extremely excited, ecstatic, stoked, treed, pumped, psyched, jazzed, amped, revved, wired.

What I love the most about it, is it's based on a true story, though in reality it was something like 150,000 vs 300, not a million like they're doing in the movie, but you have to Hollywood it up a bit i spose.
I especially love the style it's being shot in. The costume design, the sets, the environments. I was a huge fan of Sin City, and am a pretty big fan of anything that steps outside the norm without getting to wacky. It looks absolutely amazing though, and I can't wait :)
The guy in my Avatar is from that movie too btw. Woot!

yeah it was more like 150,000 vs 7000. the first two days of teh battle athens had sent 6,000 soldiers, and the remaining 700 were actually vassals of the spartans. a local who knew the terrain was bribed by the persians to be taken around behind the spartan lines, as the persians only knew of the pass that the spartans held. when Leondias found out that he was gonig to be surrounded, he sent away everyone except for the 300 spartans he had taken with him. the casualties were really very largely disportionate. an estimated 20,000 persian casulaties to 1000 for the greeks. despite the overwhelming numbers, it was a heroic stand. a tactical victory for the persians, although at a great price. it gave the greeks hooooooope!
a funny thing, the guy who recieved the bribe from the persians, after he gave them the information, the persians kiilled him :-P

Pretty accurate
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Thermopylae
But still the most famous last stand in history, the Alamo doesn't come close. The movie may include those Thebians. Who knows. Still 300 Spartans.
Anyways, back to the movie. I definatly like how bad ass it seems. And I definatly like a little unrealism as opposed to a movie like "Troy" where all the action is mundane. But it is easy to go overboard to the point of getting burnt out on it. A setting that fits nicely is LOTR, but having said that, LOTR is too long, drug out, and not enough action. Makes you want to fall asleep.
I would have really prefered if the movie had more unrealistic ties to mythology as opposed to these monster things we see. The huge elephants(cop out from LOTR), arrows blocking out the sun, and shields that can block a nuclear bomb is fine. I really like that. It is the monster looking things that turn me off. And besides, you have to give a little bit of edge to 300 people. If 300 people can stop 1 million, they need to be like walking tanks.
But yes, am definatly seeing that movie this week. This movie came close(atleast in previews) to what a good movie should be like. Gets you pumped up, gets your hormones working, and like Khaoz said, I want to drop kick something, rip off my shirt, and have rough sex with the first moving object I see. Thats what a movie should do.
It better not dissapoint or I am going to have a tourrette syndrome-esque tyrade lashing out at whatever poor individual is unfortunate enough to be sitting in front of me at the time.
Edit:The main character is the guy from Phantom of the Opera
