This forum was opened in 2007 and after nearly 16 years needs to be retired. The forum software is long out of date and has become progressively harder to patch in order to run on newer hosting software. I have done what I can to get the forum up in a read-only view, but posting will remain broken. A few old members still hang out on Discord if you'd like to stop by to say hello.
Thanks for the memories. -Lhurgoyf

I just like how he speaks. He seems to demand respect, and speaks like he knows what he's talking about. It's something we've lacked in the presidency for 7 years now.

As for John McCain, yeah. I don't even know any other Republicans that are going to be running this year, or atleast popular ones. You never hear about them, its very odd; McCain was suppose to be the shoe in at the Republican primary until his shit got blown up like you said.
I suspect that 90% of the U.S. has heard of Hillary though. She will be getting a huge percentage of the vote based off of that alone. I really really like Obama. I consider myself quasi-racist because like everyone else I have generalizations about black people; the thing is I don't consider Obama black because he doesn't meet those generalizations. If he wins the primary I am voting for him and will get my family and friends to vote for him too. As you said, he commands respect, he has a strong vibe, and just in the way he talks, is very intelligent. He is on a mission and knows what he is doing, he gives the impression of the "ideal" American so to speak. What I like the most is he wasn't wishy washy with his words. Although right now he is just trying to win the party vote and not convince all of America, you can see exactly where he stands. And if he does win, it won't be because he is black, or because he is popular unlike Hillary, it will be because of what I just mentioned. I also wouldn't mind Edwards winning the primary, JUST NOT HILLARY.
As an education critic, I know just how few role models black kids have. All of their non-white role models are sports stars, so having a black president they may pay more attention to politics and try and immolate him instead of someone like Michael Vick, Barry Bonds, Latrell Sprewell, et cetera. When suddenly it becomes cool to go to school and get an education and still be as bad ass as Obama, these kids may get some motivation outside drugs and gangs. America needs somebody like Obama as president right now!

In reply to your last paragraph, sort of like the old days? Back when black people had strong leaders like Martin Luther King.
The big difference is, those people fought and lead as black people, for black people. Obama could be the first black person to be in a position to lead for EVERYONE.

Baby steps. One day maybe the word "black" won't be attached to everything. I know its all just racism, I mean, America has had its fair share of racism apart from blacks if you think about it with the Immigrants coming through Ellis Island.
In class today the teacher was talking about incorporating multicultural education and to include minorities into the curriculum. The whole time I am thinking "why, I never thought about whether the teacher should incorporate Germans when I was growing up". But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense; there IS a division between blacks, hispanics, and "white" people. Today it doesn't matter if you are Irish or w/e as long as you are white. So when you see all these white people doing great things and your ancestors didn't do shit, it creates a self-defeating prophecy so to speak. Atleast I as a German can look at guys like Hitler...
I mean, we are getting there; we aren't that bad today. Jesse Jackson and the people who are the head of these organizations will make it out to be that way because they are getting money, but honestly we have gotten to the point that labeling somebody as "black", whether it be for multicultural purposes, celebrating history, or whatever, is just going to keep things the same. 50 years from now, if things continue the way they are, how are we to progress? Nobody cares about race anymore so why bring it up? I know a lot of black kids that play video games, and act like normal white kids. I don't view those kids as black, I view them as normal people.
Obama becoming president won't just make things better for black kids, but white people who generalize black people. He is proof that given the right environment, "black people" can be no different than white people in both attitude and intelligence.

Yeah. If I have a problem with any race these days, it's white people. Not the entire race of white people, but the ignorant, KKK wannabes, who come online. Every single day I go on xbox live, I have to hear some white kid, screaming "you fucking nigger!" at me, every time I kill him. I know not all white people are ignorant fools, but it's the large amount that come online acting that way, that give the rest of you the bad name.
As for the multicultural education, I'm not exactly sure what you meant by that. Did you mean, learn about other cultures in school, instead of just American culture? Cause, it seems we already to that. What is American? American is Mexican, Black people, White people, Asians, and we have plenty of learning of all races in school when I was growing up. I mean, each race has its own cultural month and all that as well.
They say, kids that learn 2 languages, grow up smarter, and catch on to things much quicker in life. My wife and I have been teaching my 2 sons Spanish and English since day one. Her entire family is just smart as hell anyway though. They're a large Mexican family(though their blood is dominated by the Spanish blood, which is why she's so light skinned and tall compared to most mexicans), but they didn't skimp on the education at all. One sister in-law has a Masters in teaching. The other sister in-law has a masters in something to do with HRO(that's what her job is anyway, HRO). Her brother has a degree in bioengineering, the other brother has a dual degree in something like law enforcement or some shit, I forget. Their parents owned 2 businesses, and now live in a mansion, literally. Her uncle owns a huge construction company and makes ass tons of money he doesn't even know what to do with. Keep in mind her Parents came to the US illegally, and with nothing in their pockets. Her Dad got deported a lot I guess, lol. Her Mom became legal when she had kids here, and now obviously, years and years and years later, they're both perfectly legal. It's just crazy how much they've done with their lives, starting out with nothing.
I know none of that has to do with their race... well it might.
I do hope though, back on topic here, that if Obama takes the presidency, we see a change in the attitude of the average white person who comes online, and Americans as a whole. The racism just makes them look foolish, and though I know it'll never fully disappear, it would be great if it faded a bit, when the entire country had a black president everyone could look up to. It would be nice if people could realize, that Races aren't ignorant, people are ignorant. white, black, asian, whatever. Every race has its fools, and you can't judge the entire race based on those fools.

Looks like you married into rich blood Khaoz. You are spot on with multicultural education. It is incorporating every culture into the curriculum, in the past it wasn't always like that; now it has gotten to where you have to talk about each race equally or something like that. But like I said, I was thinking to myself, if you didn't contribute in the past...whether that be because slavery or whatever, why should you be mentioned? Shouldn't we be talking about people who matter and made a real contribution? I mean as individuals of course, slaves made great contributions and we learn about them in school; but no Bubba Sapp who planted Cotton from the age of 5 until he died. I know its lame, but blacks were put into a position where they couldn't do anything significant except fight for their freedom.
But then I began to ask myself, well, they were never in a position to do anything significant. Its not their fault, its the fault of the slaveholders. That is why it is a great sign to see African Americans rising up through the college levels, acting like typical people, and possibly breaking out. I just hope that in viewing the contributions of black people, there is a realistic look that they will not be doing as much as white people because there isn't as many of them. Racism will end when African Americans actually start contributing to society. More teachers in white schools, more doctors and lawyers, more engineers.
Affirmative action is supposedly to make it easier for minorities to get into these fields. I use to think that Affirmative action was totally wrong and racist and screwed over deserving people. But then I realized that a lot of black people are stuck because of where they are and don't get the opportunities. They don't, its a fact. I know if I was born in the middle of a druggy neighborhood I probably would have turned out to be a pimp instead of a teacher. I just wish Affirmative action was changed to all people who are in that position and not just black people. It takes out some of those racist qualities.
For the kids online calling each other niggers. Meh, they are immature and they are hiding behind a computer. They know if they call somebody a nigger in real life they would get the shit beat out of them so they do it. I don't blame that on racism, I don't think they are really racist, they just want to talk shit because they can; and when you think about it, nigger is the only word that has the potential to really piss people off. And because it has been used so much it is now part of the internet slang.

I am in agreement with ya'll about the waiting it out for and checking the field for potential presidents. I know Obama talks good but when asked what would he do if attacked with NBC's (nuclear, biological, chemical) he simply talks about hospitals and first responders, what about the guys who did it, he ignored them in the debate. Now Edwards was all for putting a boot up their ass. It is a good idea to get everyone squared away at home but to ignore the people who did it doesn't seem like a good idea. In terms of racism, well it's not really racism but one of the republicans is a Mormon and he constantly has people putting him down for it and trying to tell him he can't be president. I think people just need to grow up. The affirmative action thing is the want to be fairness doctrine. That is probably why they got rid of it in the 80's or 90's. I'm not old enough to remember Regan but I hear a lot of people looking for someone who can lead like him, so I guess he was good. Either way I am not overly impressed with any of the candidates at this time so they got some work to do to my vote.

As long as people are different colors, race will always be an issue for some. It's most unfortunate.
