This forum was opened in 2007 and after nearly 16 years needs to be retired. The forum software is long out of date and has become progressively harder to patch in order to run on newer hosting software. I have done what I can to get the forum up in a read-only view, but posting will remain broken. A few old members still hang out on Discord if you'd like to stop by to say hello.
Thanks for the memories. -Lhurgoyf

Anyone here know a lot about bikes?
Wife wants to get bikes for each of us, but before I go dump $500 each on 2 bikes, I'd like to talk to someone who knows about this shit.
Anyone here into them?

My brother is really into moutain biking, and I used to be when I was younger. It really depends on what you needed to know.

Do you have any idea on the types of terrain and use you will get out of the bikes? Also what type of bike that you want would help a little also. Mountain bike, cruiser, BMX etc etc.

I thought you were talking about like sport bikes, I know stuff about motorcycles. Nothing about bicycles.

Nah, i'm talking about a bike that would be good for a casual workout, or a casual stroll around the block, or to the lake down the street, or what ever. My wife is also talking that she wants to ride one to work, since our vehicles eat gas like mad, and since we live here on base now, it's not far to her work. So I guess a bike that could be used as a commuter, as well as for a stroll. I was reading about hybrids. They seem to be what we're looking for?

Just get a bike in ur price range that your comfortable with. Make sure you ask to test ride the bike before you buy it. I know a decent amount of bikes and I have friends who know alot more.

I kinda wanted to order one online :(
Stores are real ripoffs these days compared to online prices.

Go for a full suspension, dual disc brake mountain bike and dont look back. Just go around to a couple different bike shops and take some for a test ride and make sure they are comfortable to you and your ball and chain. Then after you find one see if you can find a better deal online. Im lucky enough to be friends with a guy who owns a bike shop in my home town so i get killer deals.
