Training: Basic Combat Training

Basic Combat Training Sniper School Airborne School Ranger School

Training consists of the single-player missions in the game. Instead of participating in these online with other players, you'll be in it by yourself. Training will teach you what you need to know to be effective in the game, and will open up new soldier classes for you to play.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BASIC RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP
Open By: Opened from Start
Location: Fort Benning, Georgia
Weapon(s): M16A2 Rifle
Qualification: Hit at least 23 targets to pass as a Marksman.

This will be the first thing you need to complete in the game. It will introduce you to using weapons, in particular the standard M16A2 rifle. The training takes place on a firing range.

You start off the training listening to your instructor. After he's finished talking, go over to the table and pick up an M16 like he tells you, then turn left and go out into firing point 9 (drop into the hole).

At this point, the instructor will let you fire your gun and learn the basics. You can use this time as practice for the upcoming test. Remember the "r" key reloads, the right mouse button switches between the firing modes, and the "z" key zooms in and lets you see through the sights. Shoot off two rounds, and you'll automatically go outside of the hole. Here you can crouch ("c" key) or lie down in the prone position ("x" key). Note that while crouched, the amount of swaying while zoomed is decreased, and that while lying down, swaying is almost eliminated. After dispensing of two more rounds, it'll be time for the test.

During the test, the targets will pop up in front of you one at a time in a random fashion. There will be a total of 40 targets. Hit the following number of targets to obtain certain titles:

Hit Below 23 Targets: Fail to qualify
Hit 23-29 Targets: Qualify and obtain Marksman rating
Hit 30-35 Targets: Qualify and obtain Sharpshooter rating
Hit 36-40 Targets: Qualify and obtain Expert Marksman rating, and qualify for Sniper School
You will have two rounds of ammunition to complete the test with. That means if you're going to get a perfect 40 targets, you can't miss once. The first round will have you firing while in the fighting (standing)
stance, while the second will have you firing while in the prone (lying down) stance.

The key to passing the test and getting the higher ratings is using your zoom. Firing while not zoomed is very inaccurate. While zoomed, try to aim the middle of the target up with the top of the vertical sight. Keep in mind that you will sway due to breathing while zoomed, so try to fire in between breaths. In the prone position, swaying is minimal, so
it should be much easier to hit the targets.

If you're going for the Expert rating (which is required if you wish to enter Sniper School), you can only have 4 bullets miss or miss four targets. This is very difficult to do. Don't waste too many bullets on one target; if you've already shot two bullets at a target and missed, leave it. You should hit all of your targets while in the prone position, so the pressure is on during the first half.

BCT OBSTACLE COURSE
Open By: Complete Basic Rifle Marksmanship
Location: Fort Benning, Georgia
Weapon(s): None
Qualification: Complete obstacle course in 1:30 or less

With your basic weapon skills already learned, now you'll learn the basics of moving and getting around.

The Obstacle Course is fairly simple. Be sure to stay between the white posts for the whole course. Before each portion, your instructor will explain to you what you need to do, and an explanation of how to do that with your keyboard and mouse will flash onto the screen.

After you go through the course one time to learn it, you'll go through a second time. This time, however, you only have 1 minute and 30 seconds to get through everything and complete this phase of training. As long as you don't mess up, it shouldn't be a problem. There are a few tips to help you go faster, though:

First of all, be sure the sprint whenever there is an open stretch of ground (and even over narrow beams). Try to keep your time lying down (getting under fences, barbed wire) to a minimum by running close to the obstacle and then dropping down. If the instructor tells you to do something over, you must do it.

U.S. WEAPONS FAMILIARIZATION
Open By: Complete BCT Obstacle Course
Location: Fort Benning, Georgia
Weapon(s): M-249 Machine Gun, M-203 Rifle, M-67 Framentary Grenade, M-83 Smoke Grenade
Qualification: Familiarize yourself with all weapons

This phase of training does not involve any sort of test. Instead, you will simply get a chance to practice with each of the weapons listed above. Follow the instructions of the instructor and use the weapons on the firing range.

After expending all of the ammo in a weapon, or whenever you feel ready to go on, proceed down to the next station. Remember to press the "e" key to pick up weapons and ammo.

MOUT TRAINING
Open By: Complete U.S. Weapons Familiarization
Location: Fort Benning, Georgia
Weapon(s): M16A2, Flashbang Grenade
Qualification: Complete training in urban setting without harming non-combatants

Objectives:
A - Shoot Target Charlie, Shoot Target Bravo, Shoot Target Alpha
B - Unlock Door in the Dark
C - Cross the Finish Line

The MOUT Training level takes place indoors. Strewn throughout are cardboard cut-outs of enemies and innocent bystanders. As they aren't real, they won't move or fire at you. The main thing you have to keep in mind is to not shoot the civilian cut-outs. Actually, other than the first three enemy targets, you don't have to shoot any of the others. You
won't be penalized for late reactions, so take your time and get a close view to verify enemies or friendlies.

Your first objective is to shoot the three targets in the first room. Your instructor tells you to throw a flashbang into the room to blind them. While you actually don't have to, you may as well for a little practice.

With the three targets down, proceed down into the sewer system. The first target you see down there is a friendly, so be sure not to shoot it. Proceed through the sewers and you'll eventually come back out into the building. Make your way through the rooms until you reach a locked door. Hold down the "e" key until the meter at the top of the screen
fills to open it.

Now simply go through the unlocked door, down the hall, up the ladder, and through the door to the top to get outside and finish the mission.
