Hole In The Barcode..?

Ok I just bought a CD on the amazon marketplace, i'd been looking for it for awhile and just couldn't find it locally (Anterrabae's "And Our Heart Beats In Our Fingertips Without Reason")

Catch is, it was only $1.35 ($3.94 total with shipping and tax) i have my doubts it's going to be the original CD etc etc.. but i decided to give it a chance since the sell had a 98% on his feedback with over 2500 sales..

Something that caught my attention was that alot of the people selling the CD's really cheap ($1-$5 range) had "hole in the barcode" in their item descriptions. I was wondering if any of you happened to know what this meant?

hmm found this on another site:

21. Why do some of the CDs you sell have the barcodes punched?

If we are selling a CD below cost (like through our deals where you pay from $1 to $5 per CD) or giving a CD away for free, we must put a hole through the barcode. We do this so these records cannot be returned to our distributor for credit where we have to buy them back at full price (yes, some shady stores do this when you sell them a used record for a buck). If we did not punch the barcode, we could not offer such incredibly cheap deals to our fans. Note that these are Brand New records with full artwork...not used copies or the like. They just have a small hole in the barcode...which can save you up to 70% from our regular prices.

will keep you updated, this may lead to a whole new era of CD's for me :p

Edit:
LMAO more reading.. It's probably a Promo CD.. never intended for resale! :S

When they sell CD's at low cost like that they punch a hole in the barcode so it can't be returned to the distributor for a profit.
