Hooking Ipod directly to car
i drive a 2007 pontiac g6, basic factory stereo, no xm.
i'm trying to hook my ipod up to the car and still have click wheel control, not the stupid interface where you control it through your stereo. basically line-out of the ipod to the stereo would be fine. anybody help me? i've searched google all day today with no luck |
oh ya something cheap would be nice.
if i'm going to have to spend 160 for the one that makes me be able to use the stereo buttons to change songs, i might as well just buy a new headunit |

I bought an FM transmitter for like $10. I don't use it anymore 'cause I've got a new stereo but yeah it worked great. I stuck it to my dash with some velcro I bought and after I removed it I just used Goo-Gone to get the adhesive off.

an FM transmitter is the worst thing you could possibly do. For starters, it sounds like ass, and if you drive by someone with a stronger FM transmitter than yours, you hear their ipod/satellite radio/whatever.
As for maintaining click wheel control, there is simply no way to do it. I have yet to see any sort of remote control that maintains control of the click wheel system. Basically, your only option is what you dont want to do. |
Guess i'm getting a new headunit o:

It would really be your best option. I like those cars, btw. Been considering buying one. |
I really can't complain about it. It gets decent mpg (20+) and it doesn't look that bad.
I really wanted a g5 because i wanted a manual trans. and it drives more sportier. but i was forced to go with the g6 because it's "safer" and it was about the same price. it drives well, it's pretty quiet, stock speakers are nice as long as you aren't a complete audiophile. and it's pretty cheap. very reliable in my opinion..never had a problem with my grand-am that wasn't my fault. it's kind of a pain to replace the stereo in GM car's though =/ |

In my first car, a 1990 Olds Delta 88 Royale, you had to essentially take the entire dash out. My MR2's radio is easy, two screws to take the center dash out, and two bolts to hold the headunit cradle. |
I have an RSX type-s and did this mod:
