Just found this posted on another forum, it seems that RHCP's latest song Dani California infact shares the same beat and guitar work as Tom Petty's Mary Jane's Last Dance song.

Whether or not its just a conisidence or what you can't deny how similar it sounds.

maybe they paid to sample it? No song these days is original, they all jack shit from someone else.

there are discussions on the internet between anthony kiedis and journalists who felt the same way. rhcp has openly admitted that there are similarities that are between the songs because the song was originally pushed to be somewhat of an ode to tom petty and his music. I couldn't imagine a band like rhcp ever having to rip someone elses music. Especially an extremely popular song like last dance.
