My new ride...
|
Not a huge fan of non turbo 350's, cool car though. I am buying an 87 Supra turbo in the next few days.
|

|
Nice car, my friends dad has a black one.

LoL cause I had work on Mid-Day Friday! I drove 36 hours in a 48 hour period - came home and slept for a few hours, then went to work lol. Yea Emerica I had originally wanted the car in black but I was buying used so all the blacks were pretty much garaunteed to be broken in with your standard swirly looking black finish... That and silverstone is 9999x easier to keep clean =D |
Very nice. Congrats, I've never driven one but I hear they're really fun cars.

Yea it's so fun; especially coming from a 00 automatic cougar... This is actually the first stick shift I've ever seriously touched, and I had to learn to drive it in the middle of noon rush hour (bumper to bumper) traffic in philly - stop and go traffic on hills *cringe*. |

Poor clutch  . I never liked the ass end of the Z's for some reason, but it is a nice car besides that. I personally want either a 06, or a 07 Subaru WRX STi. I drove a 06 last year and almost busted a nut in the drivers seat because of how much grip it got around corners. |
Quote:
Any AWD car is going to do that. I personally think brand new Sti's are overpriced. Don't get me wrong, they are nice but not worth 30-35k. And yeah Mav, good thing it was a new clutch haha. It's ok, I did the same thing with my mustang when I first got it and it's still perfectly fine. Just be glad you didn't learn stick on a car with a cable clutch and ~340ft-lb of torque. |
Quote:
I dunno about it being overpriced. I am wondering if you could buy a regular WRX, And put all the STi upgrades in it. Motor, Turbocharger, brakes, trim, interior, suspension etc etc for under what you would pay at the dealership. Somehow i doubt that could happen. It's a matter of preference with cars. A car like a WRX STi is a "fun" car in my book. It is more at home on a track, hauling ass around hairpin corners on some country road, or mobbing down gravel/snowy forest service roads rather then being on grocery detail. I'm done :suic: |
STi's cant take hairpins for shit. They understeer right off.
Trust me, I race. |
Quote:
While i did notice understeer while driving my uncles STi, it really wasnt that much of a hindrance for me. And i was not driving like an 80 year old woman either. After i got used to the way the car corners, i was hammering old twisty country roads pretty damn hard and had no issues. Before taking it for a drive with my uncle, i too heard that it understeers pretty badly. But for the most part it did not bug me at all. |
the 350z is deffinately my favorite car. Ive driven a turbo from the states it was baaaaallin.
Fuck its a stick too, goddamn im jealous. How much did it cost ya? got any plans for it mav? |
Nice car, congrats mav.
As for the STi subject, Im not a big fan... Something just isn't impressive enough. Im a bigger fan of the evo especially the X and its styling but it still isn't worth the price. For corners Id personally buy a used charger srt8 or save up for the new gtr. Theres always the evo but its pricey as hell. For a strait line(this is where the sti is pathetic at best) I'd stick with the srt8 or buy a new eclipse v6 if money was an issue. Have to love mid 12s stock from an American car. EDIT: Actually you could just buy a GSXR-1000 and run circles around everything on the corners or in a strait line... well the zx14 has the strait line but you get the idea. |
Street bikes will stomp most cars in a straight line any day. But if you honestly think that streetbikes reign supreme around hairpins/corners, you need to get your head checked. On bikes most of the time you have to slow down much more around corners then what you would have to do in lets say an EVO where you can just hammer it through the corners and let technology handle the rest. Sorry man but many magazines, car T.V. shows have put bikes up against cars and found out when it gets down to real tight corners, cars will overtake the bikes with relative ease.
|
If we go on what we hear and not what we see(I've seen many cars get killed by bikes on back roads) This video Which is a gally vs a ducati 999 shows the ducati winning by just a little. Throw in the mix that the 999 can't compete in the same class as the jap liter bikes because the liters are faster and it has to be dumped down into a 750ish class. I've seen a gsxr750 and gsxr1000 take a road rated at 25mph in a car at upwards of 100mph. Its all tight turns and switch backs.
|
Its not just what i have heard or seen on T.V. though. And using a gally to compare anything probably isnt the best way to go about it. Yes the gally is a fast, decent handling car, but a EVO X would win hands down. Then you say well if we go by what we see (then didnt finish the sentence) you put up a video of fifth gear doing a contest.... Ahhh hell arguing over something this stupid is really not worth it. To be completely honest, go get yourself your srt-8, and a gixxer, and see for yourself instead of what you are seeing on the interwebs.
|
That is hardly a fair comparison. The Lambo has an AWD system based on the Audi Quattro AWD System (Audi owns Lambo). The AWD system is notorious for understeering problems.

The evo x might beat the 999 but like i said the 999 can't compete with the liter jap bikes because it CAN'T keep up. Im not going by what I see on the web but its necessary to show fanboys what happens when a bike and a car race. I've seen it in person. The 1000 and 750 I speak of I've seen run cars. Actually a buddy has a srt8 and can take one of the roads around here at about 100mph or so. Bikes cruise that road(ie: not driving hard) at 115. Mega, I found that out yesterday while reading an article on the R8. I know the gally will slalom faster than an evo IX but I haven't seen numbers for the X yet. Its suppose to handle very good from what everyone is saying. I can't wait for the GTR personally, rumors of 450+hp and R34/G35X AWD system. It should be a beast. This is like the arguement about nitrous being flammable a few years ago... |
I don't really race, this is more of a daily driver toy... If I ever get some more money maybe I'll dump some mods into it, but that'd probably be pretty far away. Tuition, books, etc rape me enough as it is. I did order a nismo leather shifter though; if you look real close my stock one is worn to all shit.

I basically got the car for about 16k after all was said and done, I paid 11k out of pocket. It's a grand touring trim though and the mechanical parts of the car are in great condition. Got this sucker for less than it would cost you to walk off the lot with a new civic ^_^. I battered the sticker price down about 3k and got an extra 1k on my trade in after a few hours of negotiations . |

Which it isnt, btw ;) |
Mav, I do autocrossing with my daily. Its a cheap way to have fun in the car I drive everyday. I have very little done to it, mainly suspension stuff for handling. The engine is nearly stock, sporting only a shortened intake setup. It has the Toyota 4AGE which is a damn near indestructible, high revving engine, and its good on gas and runs on low octane. I am getting a separate car just to tear ass up on the freeway at the weekend street racing meets.

Sexii car... I'm to tall for that beast. I rather go with a g35 as I am 6'3, but would love the Z if I was a under 6'0 ft. Congrats on the purchase... I wish I would have made a deal like that as I bought an 03' civic with 22K miles for 12K. I actually have a Z, but never use it. My best friend in the Sheriff's dept actually uses it, and is going to buy it from me. When I drive it, my right knee blocks me from switching gears easily...
|
Quote:
hah yea, the Z is not designed for tall people... I'm 5'6 and it fits my size pretty well; I've got enough room to move around and my feet don't feel cramped. My step-mom had an 04 g35 coupe for awhile, it was reall nice. She ended up trading it in for a nissan armada because she couldn't maneuver for shit on the snow... rwd ftl in the snow. |
wow 13k thats a fuckin STEAL mav. I have yet to see a driveable 350 for under 26K (canadian). Coooongrats!
