http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

this program is mostly for ads and shit but works nice and might help you out. It will prolly surprise you how much shit gets on there.

IceBlade 08-28-2006 09:53 AM

I use ad-aware as well.

Spin 08-28-2006 10:01 AM

yeah i've used ad-aware and windows defender...i prefer ad-aware

KEVIN1327FA 08-28-2006 10:47 AM

I think I'm gonna download these too cuz I don't have any type of virus protection.

IceBlade 08-28-2006 12:06 PM

They're not really virus protectors. They just remove spy-ware.

I've heard avast is good for anti-virus. I just don't bother with it. I keep all my important files and backup of everything on a 40gig, mainly because i tend to reformat every 2 months. (sounds silly, but everything runs so much smoother after every reformat)

http://members.home.nl/mloman/hitmanpro243.exe

runs just about every anti-spyware program out there. Beware... it will auto fix whatever it finds so if you happen to have say, aston installed, it will delete it out of the registry and cause you some headaches. But other than that it is pretty much the best since it runs like 7 different programs on your computer.

It's still good to have a virus protector. Like I do all my banking online. If I were to get a virus it could mean an empty bank account.

Sc0rPi0n 08-28-2006 06:42 PM

Well a big box appears in the bottom right hand corner of my computer, and shows up on top of any application I have up. If I click on it it auto sends me to a "virus protection" site, wanting me to DL something else..

Sc0rPi0n 08-28-2006 06:44 PM

When this "window" pops up, and I hit cntrl+alt+delete to turn it off, it doesn't show up as an application.

IceBlade 08-28-2006 06:51 PM

Instead of going to Applications when you press CTRL-ALT-DEL goto Processes and look for anything fishy. Arrange by username and close the one's on your user first. If you're not sure what they are go here or google them. www.answersthatwork.com and goto the Task List.

Sc0rPi0n 08-28-2006 07:32 PM

blah, that is what I meant. The only processes I had that were user functioned were explorer and the task manager =/

HELP!

Shit man I think you need to wipe and start over my friend that lives next door has the exact same thing it pops up telling you you are infected and then you close the window and it pops open a window for anti-virus shit. then you close that and it waits about 1-5 minutes and repeats the process. I would be intrested to know how you solve this man I tried running a virus scan on his PC and it would stop the scan in the same spot everytime. I think this is the same stuff that is happenoing to his I am still in the process of trying to fix it if you know how by the end of this please post it so I can fix his machine. the process doesn't show. also he can't delete his cookies and it takes his home page and changes it to the site that is trying to sell the anti-virus. Kinda pissing me off glad it isn't my machine. sorry it is yours. We will have to work on this some more. If i get the answer I will post it for you.

Sc0rPi0n 08-29-2006 02:54 PM

Well I fixed it. I used a wierd version of Spy Docter. The problem is, in the process, Spy Docter erased some windows files(wininet.dll). It took me a while to get them back, but now I am back w/o having to reformat.

Rathious 08-29-2006 04:02 PM

o okie man I will have to try that out on his.
