Pretty Solid Usenet Access

Yeah, so me and KhaoZ were discussing methods of obtaining DS roms when I came to the conclusion "I'm gonna have to somehow get a usenet account..." So, he referred me to www.usenetserver.com and I got the $3 for 3 day trial pass. Mmmm mmm, good stuff. My connection (which sucks balls, mind you) has been maxed at 130KB/s+ for a while now. KhaoZ says he gets 1,100KB/s+ so it's not like it's capped low or anything.

Check em out if you're shopping,

Me and two friends use them and split on the monthly cost for it. We have no problems downloading at the same time and we all max out our connections at a meg/sec. I've never had any problems with them and come March 1st they'll be increasing their retention to over 100 days.

Hekkensn 02-24-2007 11:34 AM

why would u pay to get DS roms... Theres a few sites online that offer them for free.

IceBlade 02-24-2007 12:53 PM

'cause you can get more than just ds roms.. you can get anything that's of data form.

KhaOZ 02-24-2007 01:34 PM

And the fact that I downloaded every DS rom in about 5 hours... yes 20gigs in 5 hours. Usenet is where all warez starts from. All pirated movies, all pirated software, it all gets released on usenet first, then slowly distributes to torrents and limewire, etc. On usenet i've gotten games weeks before they were released in stores. Perfect DVD versions of movies before they were even in theaters. DVD extras and all. Usenet is the shit. Why I love it the most? I don't have to share files with others, and it maxes my connection out. I download at a cool 1,200KBytes/second. Had I a faster connection, it would meet that speed as well no doubt. You're paying for quality.

With newzbin you're pretty much guaranteed quality. All the files on there are near tested and if there's something that doesn't work, it's flagged, if it's not what it says it is, it's flagged, and it's near impossible to get a virus from anything on there, because the community is so closely monitored. If my wife and I decide there's a good movie we want to watch, I can download a nice quality Divx version of it in about 15 minutes, and we'll be watching it in no time. Or I can download the full DVD in about 45 minutes on average. What other service can you do this with?

They have every HDDVD and BluRay disk movie on Usenet as well. I download HDDVDs all the time for my HDTV, and they look sweet as fuck.

Anyway, moral of the story, Paying for Usenet saves me assloads of time, and I get quality. Well worth it IMO.

what khaoz said. i <3 the usenet. i've had an account elsewhere and snagged a few versions of XP, Windows 2003 server (32 and 64), among many movies and games.

it's well worth the money if you like to shuffle software a lot / need a lot at once.

plus! you don't need to sign up for a year or some crap, you can do 3 days at a time even... i call that flexible.

I also recommend newsleecher as your client + supersearch. The newest beta has several good features which: Download only the files you need, so they skip par files if everything is complete. If incomplete, it downloads par files, if not enough par files it searchs usenet for files to complete it. Auto verifies, repairs, and extracts in the background. Supersearch allows you to search over 100 days. Its $29.99 a year, worth it if you ask me. Will save you some bandwidth and automates the entire process.

IceBlade 02-24-2007 02:51 PM

I use newsleecher but I don't have the SS thing.

blood 02-24-2007 03:53 PM

not bad, lhurg. the less effort the better with that stuff. i like going to a certain forums because it's so heavily moderated. but heck, if i had a client (browser) that would search through and weed out stuff, that'd be awesome.

deffinately good info.

IceBlade 02-24-2007 04:51 PM

I use http://v3.newzbin.com to search and Newsleecher to dl.

v3 Newzbin here too, cept I use grabit. I might give that one Lhurg talked about a try though.

IceBlade 02-25-2007 01:33 AM

I used to use Grabit until Lhurg suggested Newsleecher. Haven't gone back since. I also had some probs with grabit which is another reason I switched.

blood 02-25-2007 12:34 PM

what kinda problems, ice? i'm just interested if my startup issues were due to grabit or what. (they're fixed now)

IceBlade 02-25-2007 02:12 PM

I couldn't delete the group sub-folders without the dl's messing up. I'd delete them to clean up my dl folder and then Grabit wouldn't recreate them so everything I downloaded wouldn't be decoded.

Beyonder 02-25-2007 10:09 PM

Doesn't it seem kind of funny to pay for a piece of software that helps you download pirated software?

IceBlade 02-25-2007 10:25 PM

I didn't pay for it. I used Grabit (the free one) to pirate it so I could use it. LOL.

a few parts of my rars are corrupted 0.O that sucks greaty. especially considering the 3 day thing...

IceBlade 02-26-2007 06:56 AM

Well I can dl a full dvd in 2 hours so it's no big deal.

blood 02-26-2007 12:04 PM

apparently i needed something called QuickPar which KhoaZ hooked me up with. It fixes rars? More-like reads .par files I guess...

anyhow, i've yet to try it.

IceBlade 02-26-2007 01:14 PM

Oh you didn't have QuickPar eh? EXTREMELY USEFUL!!! lol.

Once you discover you need to use it you'll love it :)

Like Lhurg said if you use Newsleecher it pauses all par files until your download is done. Then it checks to see if any are incomplete and if they are it will unpause the par files so that you can repair it.

blood 02-27-2007 12:05 PM

word. quickpar did the trick (mostly). the rar still had 1 bad file but then again, my ISP dropped my connection a solid 4-5 times during the downloading.

screw SBC :(
