My friend is picking up a copy today. After work tonight I may be going to his house to try it out.

not trying to sound like a dick, but those of us who cant afford 360's really don't care. it seems like every other post recently has been about GoW, all from the same people.

not to be correct, but this is a gaming forum? if you can't update, don't hate on us. GoW is a pretty tight game, with a lot of competitive potential, which is very exciting.

also, it's the only GoW topic I see on this page of the forums.

I feel you. I cancelled my online reserve, and am going out to try and find one, lol. Getting ready now.

I'm debating about going out tomorrow or thursday and buying an Xbox 360 and gears of war... I've been waiting on a decent game.

One major problem is that I live in the dorms and I'm not sure I can get xbox live to work here; don't really have a lot of gamer friends here who would know.

If you have a broadband connection, you're strait. That's all that's required.

Yea I know that, I beta tested xbox live back in it's infancy...Only problem was (with the original xbox atleast) I basically had to spoof the mac addresses on my xbox to get it to connect properly (this was before I ever had the need for a router in my home way back when)

At the university

a) I'm not allowed to have a router and apparently it's next to impossible to set one up if you want to ignore than rule
b) My computer is logged with my university ID and password VIA a proxy server that allows my computer to transmit and recieve data accross the server
c) Certain ports are blocked for various reasons; ports that I do not have the ablity to unblock.

If I was in another dorm I could probably get away with jacking a wifi connection, but my dorm is smack dab in the middle of the downtown area and people get whored enough that basically every network has a WEP on it =P

I'm still going to get the 360 and GoW; I'm just not sure if my live exprience will happen or not while I'm here.

You'll definitely find a way to get it working. Most campus' had to change stuff or post tutorials on how to get xbox access on campus because consoles are popular.

Kind of pisses me off...considering i found several dorm tutorials for other University's around Iowa (UNI and ISU)...bleh effin University of Iowa... I'll probably still try it heh.

Why not link live through your pc?

your computer accesses your resnet, your xbox accesses your computer.

It's not like I can get my network to assign an IP address to 2 mac adresses; and I don't know of any interface between the 360 and a PC that would allow me to stream a connection through my laptop.

Wow. SO I got it last night right. I haven't been this amazed by a game since CS and Starcraft. It's so much better than I could have ever imagined. I played it for 9 hours strait last night, no joke, lol. I haven't done that with a game in, I don't know how long.

Game is just amazing. Aight, enough, coming here to type has made me miss it already, so bye :)

yea my friend and I played multilayer between the two of us all day since I haven't tried to hook-up live yet... I think I'm going to do that this week if I can find time to play at all; we'll just have to see if the University notices.

I got excited about this game until I heard it was for 360. I hate console games, controllers give me downs syndrome. Hopefully they transition this over to PC.

It'll never hit the 360.... Well maybe in 2 years. All the good games are 360 these days, get with the times.

Fuck ResNet Mav. Hook that shit up anyways. Aside from maybe an Resident Advisor spotting and saying something about it, I doubt much would happen. Just look for other peeps on campus and eventually you'll find the trick to getting it work.
